Small Changes

Plastic is destroying our planet and killing millions of animals!

Here are some small changes we can all make to make our planet safer and cleaner for our children and our children's children.

1. Say no to the straw!

2. Buy a Reusable bottle (you can get these really cheaply in Penneys, Tesco, TKMAX!)

 3. Get a Keep Cup for your coffee and tea (a lot of coffee shops will give you a discount for using it)

 4. Remember to bring your reusable bag to save money and the planet!

Books about the Environment

We have a nice new collection of books in our school for Green Schools.
The books are all about the environment and how we can help!
Here are some of the books we got to help the boys learn about being greener to help save the planet:

We got these books from an online shop called The Book Depository and they do free delivery if you would like to buy for your own home. The local library can also order any books in for you to borrow for free!

Recycling Art

The boys in Junior Infants have been working hard RE-USING household items to create incredible inventions! You can do the same at home instead of putting items in the bin, they can be reused to create something wonderful!. Click here for some fun ideas which will save you money and help the environment too!

What we do to help the Environment in St Vincent's Boys School!

In St. Vincent’s, we want to help the Environment!

To help with Litter and Waste, we:

  • Try to reduce the amount of paper we use
  • Separate our waste into green, black and brown bins
  • Reuse our packaging for Art, Construction and storage
  • Don’t throw litter
  • Keep the area clean by doing litter pickups & a Spring Clean

To help save Energy and Electricity, we:

  • Turn off lights and the whiteboard when leaving the room
  • Monitor doors and windows for draughts & keep the temperature at 18 degrees
  • Turn off all switches at the end of the day
  • Have low energy days in school

If you have any more ideas, please share them with us!

2018 Team!

We are delighted to have our 2018-2019 Green Team!
Each class has a boy on the committee to bring important messages back to his class and teacher.
We have already had 3 meetings this year to chat about how we can help save energy in the school.
Some ideas we had at the meetings:

  • turn off lights and close the door when leaving the classroom
  • switch off the projector and laptop when not in use
  • keep the classroom temperature at 18°C
  • make sure furniture isn't blocking the heaters
  • at the end of the day, turn everything off at the switches so it doesn't waste energy overnight

We will now have a competition to see which class can save the most energy!
The winning class will be announced in December!
